Holland, Mich. - The Albion Football team opened conference play today vs #16 Hope. They fell 63-0.
Ian Deromedi led the team with 28 passing yards going 9-17.
Alex Trudell led the rushing front with 35 yards and
Jerone Turner added 14.
Braden Fracassi led the receiving core with six catches for 36 yards. On the defensive front
Dewayne Williams and
Kaidon Boyd had eight tackles each, with three of Williams being a tackle for loss.
Jayden Potter would have the lone pass breakup for the Brits.
The Brits defense would come out strong and force the Dutch to turn the ball over on downs on the Albion 43. The Brits would respond by also going for it on fourth down, however they had the same result as the Dutch and turned the ball over on the Hope 31. The Dutch would respond going 10 plays and 5:05 and score the first points of the game. The Brits would look to respond, however they are forced to punt with 14 seconds left in the opening quarter.
The Dutch would open the second quarter with a 36 yard touchdown to take the lead 14-0. The Dutchman defense would prove to be strong as they force the Brits to punt after a three and out. The Dutch offense would continue to run as they would score a 22 yard touchdown to go up 21-0, with 10:38 left in the half. The Brits offensive struggles would continue as they would punt, after another three and out. The Brits defense would respond by forcing a punt of their own and holding the Dutch to a three and out. The Brits would get just their second first down of the game, however a Dutchman sack would force the Brits to punt once again. The Dutch would go 11 plays and take nearly four minutes to go down the field and score a 10 yard touchdown to go up 28-0, with just 46 seconds left in the opening half. The Brits would head into the half down 28-0.
Coming out of the half Hope would take nearly five minutes to go 62 yards in nine plays to score a 1 yard touchdown and go up 35-0 on the Brits. Pinned deep, the Brits would look to get their offense going, however a fumble would be recovered by the Dutchman and they would return it for a touchdown and go up 42-0. Fate would nearly repeat itself, as the Brits would fumble again and the Dutch would come up with it at the Albion 30 yard line. Hope would go six plays and respond with another touchdown, increasing their lead to 49-0. The Brits would continue to struggle to find an offensive rhythm and would be forced to punt the ball with 3:45 left in the third. The Dutch would run the clock and would head into the fourth quarter up 49-0.
The Dutchman offense would continue the roll they had been on and finish their drive with a touchdown and go up 56-0 on the Brits. The Brits would go for it on 4th and 1 and Trudell would rush to convert and give the Brits their third 1st down of the game. However, after a Hope sack, the Brits would be forced to punt once again. With 9:13 left in the game the Dutch would get the ball and the Brits defense would continue to fight and force the Dutchman to punt after three plays. The Brits would would go three and out, and punt the ball back to the Dutch with 5:22 left to play. The Dutch would take eight plays to go 50 yards and score a one yard touchdown to go up 63-0. The Brits would have just 37 seconds to attempt to get points on the board. The Dutch defense would hold strong and the Brits would lose 63-0.
The Brits return to action on Saturday October 3rd as they host Kalamazoo at 1 PM for Homecoming and Hall of Fame Weekend.
