Stephen Wasil finished his seventh season as offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach at Albion and 14th overall as a coach with the program in 2025.
Wasil's offenses is consistently one of the most high-powered attacks in the MIAA. In his tenure as offensive coordinator, the Britons have led the conference in passing offense four times, total offense three times and scoring twice.
They have also averaged over 400 yards of total offense and over 30 points per game in six of his seasons calling plays while producing four MIAA Offensive MVP selections.
During a transition season in 2025, Alex Trudell rushed for 805 yards and nine touchdowns which were top-five in the MIAA. Additionally, it was the most yards on the ground from a Briton since 2015.
In 2024, Albion had the No. 5 passing attack in Division III with an average of 320.4 yards per game and led the nation in completion percentage (75.3%). Quarterback Luke Lovell was named second-team All-MIAA after throwing for 2,924 yards and 29 touchdowns, both of which were top-20 in all of Division III. Additionally, he was third in Division III in completion percentage (75.0%).
Lovell also earned second-team All-MIAA honors in 2023 by throwing for 2,750 yards and 22 scores, which both ranked third in the conference. Wide receiver Kye Bristow received D3football.com third-team All-Region after catching 64 passes for 913 yards and 11 scores.
Four offensive players received All-MIAA recognition in 2022, as Albion went 9-1 and narrowly missed out on a league title and NCAA playoff berth. Lovell and Jack Bush both commanded Division III's ninth-best passing attack at 306.5 yards per game, while Bush garnered second-team All-MIAA honors.
First-team D3football.com and All-MIAA wide receiver Mark Tocco led the conference with 977 receiving yards and 10 scores, which were also top-30 totals in Division III en route to MIAA Offensive MVP honors.
In 2021, six Britons received all-conference recognition on the offensive side of the ball after Albion won its second consecutive MIAA title. The attack was headlined by D3football.com All-American and MIAA Offensive MVP Justin Thomas, who became Albion's first 1,000-yard receiver. He totaled 1,113 yards and 12 touchdowns, both of which were tops in the MIAA and top-25 in Division III.
Bush was named first-team All-MIAA with 27 touchdowns through the air and 2,228 yards.
During the COVID-shortened 2020 campaign, Bush was named MIAA Offensive MVP. The Britons finished the abbreviated season 3-0 and won their 37th MIAA title. In those three contests, the offense averaged 484.0 yards of total offense and 369.0 passing yards which were both tops in the MIAA and top-10 in Division III.
Wasil was promoted to offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach with the hiring of Dustin Beurer as head coach in 2019. In his first season calling plays, Wasil's offense finished in the top two in the conference in passing yards (219.2), rushing yards (235.3), total offense (454.5) and scoring (42.9) per game.
Thomas broke the single-season receiving touchdown record with 17, while Bush and Thomas's brother, Kyle, both saw time at quarterback.
He returned to the Britons in 2013 as the assistant coach in charge of quarterbacks and receivers. Wasil helped implement an uptempo spread offense and the Britons averaged a league-best 425 yards in the six games against MIAA rivals . Quarterback Dominic Bona was an all-MIAA first team pick and receiver Zach Brewer achieved all-MIAA second team recognition. Bona was MIAA Offensive MVP and an all-MIAA first team pick in 2015. In the 2021 spring season, he mentored quarterback Jack Bush to MIAA Offensive MVP and first team honors.
The 2018 unit averaged 534 yards and 44 points per game. Quarterback Kyle Thomas set the single-game school records for total yards and passing yards in the Sept. 8 victory over Franklin, Ind., College.
Albion led the MIAA in total offense five times (2013-15, 2018, 2021) since Wasil joined the coaching staff.
Wasil was a two-time All-MIAA performer as a Briton, achieving second team status in 2004 and rising to first team in 2005.
Wasil, who prepped at Detroit Catholic Central and was inducted into the Catholic League’s Hall of Fame in 2006, still holds the Albion records for passing yards in a career (6,018) and season (3,313 in 2005). He also holds the school standard with 62 career touchdown passes, including 33 during the 2005 campaign. Wasil was on the 2001 Division 1 State Championship team. who quarterbacked Albion College to the 2005 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association championship as the league’s Offensive Most Valuable Player & played professionally in the Arena Football League, was promoted to offensive coordinator on Dec. 1, 2018.
Wasil joined the Kansas City Command for the 2011 season and he started the final five games. During those five games with the Command, he completed 63% of his passes for 1,385 yards and 26 touchdowns.
A starter in 14 games for the AFL’s Tampa Bay Storm in 2012, Wasil rushed for 19 touchdowns to rank second in the league. He finished the 2012 season completing 60 percent of his passes for 3,664 yards and 71 touchdowns.
Wasil and his wife Sarah have two children, Amelia Jane and Brady Slamer.
