The 2022-23 season will be Smith II's fifth with the Britons.A

Originally from Indianapolis, Ind., Smith II played Division I football at Savannah State University where he started for four years at quarterback and wide receiver, while also serving as a team captain. He majored in mass communications. Additionally, he attended Fork Union Military Academy, captain of football team/platoon leader

While on staff at Albion, he mentored Brian Blanzy to All-MIAA First Team honors in 2018 while seeing Justin Thomas earn Second Team accolades. In 2019, he coached Thomas to a stellar 17-touchdown season -- a MIAA single-season record. The following season, he coached a pair of All-MIAA receivers -- Thomas and Kolby Canfield. 

In the Fall of 2021, he mentored Thomas to All-American honors, while being named First Team All-Region, First Team All-MIAA and MIAA Offensive MVP. Thomas racked up 67 catches for 1,113 yards and 14 touchdowns en route to becoming Albion’s all-time leader in receiving yards and touchdowns. That same season, he saw Canfield receive All-MIAA status, following a season featuring 48 catches, 631 yards and seven touchdowns.

In the condensed Spring 2021 season, Thomas and Canfield were named First Team All-MIAA as Andy Durand was Second Team.
