Albion, Assistant Coach |
Jaylen Flaniken enters his first season as assistant coach for the 2025-26 season.
Flaniken is no stranger to Albion, as he graduated in 2025 with a degree in business administration and was a two-year varsity basketball player for the Britons.
He ended his Albion career with 48 games played (31 starts), 5.1 points and 3.6 rebounds per game while being named a team captain as a senior.
The Detroit, Mich. native transferred to Albion from Bay College in Escanaba, Mich., where he played in 53 games (26 starts) and averaged 9.4 points per game while shooting 44.4% from the field for the Norse.
He was asked to deliver the commencement speech at the college's graduation ceremony in 2023.
Flaniken attended Detroit Edison Public School Academy (DEPSA), where he helped the Pioneers to an MHSAA state title as a freshman in 2018 and was a member of the National Honor Society. He started playing basketball when he was nine years old and was homeschooled until the eighth grade.
Flaniken is the fourth oldest out of nine children and was nicknamed “Jaybat” in honor of his favorite superhero, Batman.
He currently serves as an admissions counselor covering Wayne County at Albion.
