Box Score THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The clock rushed Saturday night to ring in a new year. Midnight has not struck on Albion College's winning streak, however, as the Britons ripped off a 15-2 run to break open what had been a close game against Northwestern (Minn.) College. Albion opened a double-figure margin and coasted to its sixth consecutive victory with a 72-50 decision over Northwestern.
Neither team led by more than four for the first 9 ½ minutes. Albion started to build its lead by scoring on four consecutive possessions. Taylor Peruchietti (Lansing/Waverly) got the rally started with a second-chance basket set up by Emily King's (Sterling Heights/Henry Ford II) offensive rebound. King sandwiched two baskets around a field goal by Nicole Dennis (St. Clair Shores/Lakeview) as the Britons surged to a 27-18 lead with nine minutes left to play in the first half.
Northwestern's Chanel Madson tacked on a pair of free throws to cut the margin to seven, but Albion continued to score with two layups by Patty Rewa (Greenville) and a 3-point shot by Dennis. Albion led by 14, 34-20, with five minutes to play in the first half and it maintained at least an eight-point cushion the rest of the way.
Dennis, who shared the Posada Royale Classic's Most Outstanding Player award, led all players with 20 points. She dished out three assists and collected three steals. Rewa, who was named to the all-classic team, collected her eighth double-double of the season with 18 points and 11 rebounds.
Mollie Sir and Kristin Sczublewski were Northwestern's double-figure scorers with 13 and 11, respectively.
Albion, 7-5 overall, returns to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association action with a Jan. 4 road trip to Alma College.
