Scoring Drought Continues in Men's Soccer

Box Score

ALBION, Mich. – Albion College was credited with eight shots Wednesday, but it was unable to score for the third time in four matches as it suffered a 3-0 setback against Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rival Olivet College.

Albion goalkeeper Brian Greathouse (Dearborn) was able to snuff out Olivet's scoring chances in the opening 25 minutes. Greathouse caught the Comets' first corner kick in the air, punched the second corner kick out of the box, and stopped a shot by Corey Shean on the third corner kick.

Olivet cashed in on its persistent pressure as Patrick Lamp and Cole Dehen each tallied their first goals of the season in a two-minute span.

Albion held a 6-2 edge in shots in the second half. Jimmy Nieman's (Rochester Hills/Rochester) rip from inside the box forced Olivet goalkeeper Alex Lang to make a sprawling save in the 51st minute. Caio Orofino (Ann Arbor/Ann Arbor Pioneer) placed a shot on goal in the 83rd minute.

Jon Puente happened to be in the right spot for the Comets in the 57th minute as he placed the ball that had been deflected into the net.

Albion will go in search of its first MIAA win of the season at 2:30 p.m. Saturday when it tackles Adrian College at Alumni Field.
