Britons Go Toe-to-Toe With Olivet

Box Score

ALBION, Mich. – The Albion College men's soccer team didn't get the result it wanted in a 2-0 loss to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rival Olivet College, but Briton head coach Jerry Block believes the victories will come if the squad continues to play the way it did Tuesday

"In the open play we were every bit as good as they were," Block said of the effort his team gave against an Olivet side that has climbed to No. 3 in the regional ranking. "We have to get more solid defending set pieces. Those are two pretty cheap goals to give away.

"We put together a full 90 minutes," Block added. "The guys need to believe and build on that because there is a lot of league play left. If we give that performance the next 12 games we're going to win a lot more than we lose."

Adam Wright and Jon Puente scored Olivet's goals in a seven-minute window of the first half

Led by first-year midfielder Ben Mausar and forwards Matt Woster and Caio Orofino, Albion had its share of possession. Mausar had one of the team's most dangerous chances, but his attempt in the 12th minute clanked off the crossbar.

The Britons finished with six shots, and Kyle Alsheskie placed two on goal.

Albion completes the second week of league play at 2:30 p.m. Saturday when it makes a trip to Grand Rapids to challenge Calvin College.
