WESTERVILLE, Ohio – Jalyn Ingalls knocked down 16 kills and 10 blocks in two matches Saturday to gain a place on the Capital/Otterbein All-Tournament team. Albion swept past Kenyon College (25-15, 25-12, 26-24) but lost to Otterbein University in four sets (22-25, 20-25, 25-23, 15-25) to finish the opening weekend with a 1-3 record.

Albion limited its errors against Otterbein, committing just four in each set. The Britons hit .241 in the third set against the Cardinals as they recorded 11 kills in 29 attacks.

Albion jumped out to a 10-6 lead in the first set against Otterbein as Ingalls collected three kills and a service ace. Otterbein ripped off four consecutive points to tie the score and it surged into the lead with another three-point run. Albion forged ties three times with the score in the teens, but the Cardinals scored three quick points to seize control of the set.

Albion trailed 13-12 in the second set, but a service error and an attack error opened the door for Otterbein to go on a 7-1 run.

Albion trailed 22-19 in the third set, but the Britons forged a tie as Ingalls scored a kill and the Cardinals had a bad serve and a bad attack. Haley Thom's kill forged a tie at 23 and Otterbein had bad attacks on the final two points as Albion stayed alive.

The fourth set was tied at 10 when Otterbein ripped off a 6-1 run to pull away.

Albion hit .208 (32 kills and 12 errors in 96 attacks) in the victory over Kenyon. Ingalls produced eight kills in 18 attacks. Thom produced seven kills, two blocks and seven digs, and Lauren Outwater contributed six kills.

Albion jumps into league play Tuesday when it travels to Grand Rapids for a match at Calvin.
