ANGOLA, Ind. – Albion College failed to close out Trine University Wednesday and it came away with a five-set loss (25-19, 25-23, 16-25, 19-25, 14-16) in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association volleyball action.

The Britons posted a .290 hitting percentage (12 kills and three errors in 31 attacks) in winning the first set, but they weren't nearly as efficient the remainder of the contest. Albion collected 14 kills but hit .128 in winning the second set and it pounded 21 kills in the final three sets.

Albion used a seven-point run to surge to a 13-9 lead in the first set. Trine committed four attack errors, Caitlin McClorey and Lauren Outwater produced kills, and Halle Thom served up an ace. A four-point run which included a Kristin Yeager ace and a block by McClorey and Thome moved Albion to set point.

Thom knocked down a kill to even the second set at 23. McClorey scored a kill and Trine committed an error to finish the set.

Albion rallied from a 4-2 deficit to forge a 4-4 tie in the fifth set. The score was tied eight times, including at 14 when McClorey and Thom combined for a block. Lauren Verkamp knocked down kills on consecutive points to give Trine the match.

Thom led the Britons with 15 kills and three block assists. McClorey contributed nine kills and six block assists.

Trine's Taylor Rabel led all players with 21 kills.
