GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Albion College volleyball team gave second-ranked Calvin College a test for the first half of the first set, but the Knights took control of the match from that point to score a three-set victory over the Britons in the first Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association contest of the season for both teams. The scores were 25-15, 25-9, 25-9.

Calvin committed a service error and a pair of attack errors as Albion pulled into a tie at 3 in the first set. Another Calvin attack error helped Albion tie the score at 4. Albion also forged a tie at 8 as Kristen Beyer knocked down a kill and Calvin committed two more attack errors. The Britons trailed by a point, 10-9, when Kristin Yeager scored a kill.

Calvin ripped off the next four points to built a 14-9 lead and it led by at least three the rest of the set.

Calvin controlled the second and third sets from the start. The Knights scored the first nine points of the second set and they scored 10 of the first 11 points in the third.

Jalyn Ingalls and Lauren Outwater finished with three kills apiece for Albion. Ingalls also knocked down a pair of blocks.

Calvin hit .430 in the match. Maggie Kamp produced 12 kills, three service aces and two block assists. Emily Crowe chipped in with nine kills and three block assists.

Albion continues league play on the road Friday with a 7 p.m. match at Saint Mary's College.
