Box Score ALBION, Mich. – Despite a three-set (25-15, 25-14, 25-11) loss to fifth-ranked Calvin College, Albion College can take pride in the way it made the Knights work for many points.
The Britons forced Calvin to take 100 attempts. Unfortunately, the Knights didn't miss the court as they committed just 10 errors. Kristen Beyer led the Britons defensive effort with 11 digs and Ami Milligan and Stephanie Thurner worked well together to block the ball back to Calvin's side of the net.
Calvin ripped off a pair of three-point runs to build a 9-3 lead in the first set. Kelly Bos knocked down a pair of kills and Maggie Kamp served up an ace to power the Knights five-point run as the gap expanded to 21-11.
Thurner scored three in a row on two kills and a block with Caitlin McClorey as Albion took the early lead in the second set. Albion led 5-3 on Thurner's third kill of the set. Albion wasn't able to get Kamp from serving as the Knights scored six in a row to seize a 9-5 lead. Albion stayed in striking distance as Lauren Outwater scored a kill as the Britons faced a 10-8 deficit. Calvin took control of the set with a six-point run that moved the score to 19-10.
The teams traded points early in the third set, but Calvin pulled away with a seven-point run as the Knights led 17-6.
Thurner led Albion with eight kills and a pair of block assists. She hit .240 with two errors in 25 attacks.
Bos led all players with 11 kills, hitting .500 for the match. Laura Danhoff contributed eight kills and five blocks (three solo and two assists).
Albion completes Homecoming weekend with a Saturday match against Kalamazoo College. The first serve is set for 11 a.m. inside Kresge Gymnasium.
