Balanced Scoring In Win

LISLE, Ill. – Erin Nelson scored two baskets during an 8-1 run as Albion built a double-digit lead and never looked back as the Britons earned a 68-54 victory over Benedictine in the opening game of the season for both teams.

Albion seized the lead with a 9-2 run early in the second half. Darian Payne and Emily DeWaters combined to go 4-for-4 from the free throw line, Carrie Adamczyk knocked down a 3-point basket and DeWaters tacked on a layup as the Britons forged a 47-40 lead with 12:46 left.

Albion led 51-47 midway through the second half, and Nelson's baskets were part of the run that put the Britons in control.

Payne matched her career scoring high of 20 points, shooting 6-of-7 from the field and 8-of-13 from the free throw line. She fell a rebound shy of a double-double.

Starters Oreyana Curry ands Erin Nelson chipped in with 13 and 11 points, respectively, and Catie Neary produced 12 points off the bench.

Meghan Novak led Benedictine with 19 points.

Albion's next game is a Nov. 18 date at Defiance (Ohio) College.
