ADRIAN, Mich. – Eric Fannell scored five goals, including a man-advantage tally in the fourth quarter, as Adrian College retained the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association men's lacrosse championship with a 17-14 victory over Albion College.

"Adrian played a great game, but we had a bunch of turnovers that led directly to goals," Albion Head Coach Jake DeCola said, noting that 25 turnovers helped the Bulldogs to score more than any Albion opponent had all season.

Dylan Neal and Cameron Braun scored goals in the first five minutes of the fourth quarter as Albion pulled to within one, 14-13. Fannell's goal put the Bulldogs ahead by two and Doug Boyd followed with his third of the day 39 seconds later. Tom Thielman's man-advantage goal with 4 ½ minutes remaining put the contest out of reach.

The teams traded goals for the first quarter and a half. Brad Bogus' second goal of the second quarter forged a 6-6 tie for the Britons with 5:40 left in the second quarter. Fannell and Drake Dailey-Chwalibog scored 45 seconds apart and Adrian never trailed again. Adrian led 10-8 at halftime.

Bogus' fourth goal of the day brought Albion within 10-9 early in the third quarter. Adrian held off the Britons as Nick Karapas scored twice and Fannell found the net to push the margin to 13-9 midway through the quarter.

Tim Urso scored three goals and dished out two assists and Braun finished with three goals for Albion. Neal contributed two goals, Zach Hubbell scored a goal, and Dominic Hamper dished out two assists.

Albion, 11-4 overall and 5-1 against MIAA rivals, will open the league tournament with a Thursday home match against Trine University.
