LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Cal Stearns and
Logan Bride were chosen to represent Albion in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Senior All-Star Game.
The game is slated for Friday, May 22 at Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, Va. The Division III game is scheduled for 4 p.m., followed by the Division I/II game at 6:30 p.m.
Stearns (#7) and Bride (#20) will be teammates on the North squad with 29 players and will face off against the South team with 28 players.
The duo joins Joey Tatar (2022) and
Brendan Mercier (2025) as the lone Britons to ever play in the annual game. Last season, Jake DeCola served as head coach of the North squad.
This year's head coach is Trine's Ryan Kuhn. One of his assistants, Sam Puzevic, is one of the most productive players in Albion history and was teammates with Stearns and Bride when they were freshmen. Puzevic and the rest of the Thunder staff will join Kuhn on the sidelines during the game.
Stearns earned MIAA Offensive MVP honors after putting up a conference-leading 67 goals, while Bride earned a spot on the All-MIAA second team despite playing in just eight games due to injury.
The first North-South College all-star game was played in 1940 at Municipal Stadium in Baltimore, Md. The North squad coached by Princeton's Bill Logan won that inaugural event, 6-5, over the South team coached by Maryland's Jack Faber.
Sixty-six total games have been played, with interruptions occurring only in 1944 and 1945 due to World War II.
In 1991, the USILA split the event and created two games — the Division I/II game and the Division III game. This two-game format was interrupted in 2006 when a special committee of the USILA recommended returning to one game but combining all divisions. The following year saw the return to two separate games.
