Britons Fall In MIAA Tournament Championship Game

Box Score

ADRIAN, Mich. – Despite leading by three midway through the second quarter, Albion College never delivered the knockout punch and Adrian College came back to hand the Britons a 9-8 setback in the championship game of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Men's Lacrosse Tournament.

Cameron Braun scored with 10 minutes left in the second quarter as Albion was seemingly in control of the contest holding a 5-2 lead.\

"We played hard and had them where we wanted them," Albion Head Coach Jake DeCola said.

Adrian's defensive unit improved as it forced Albion into four turnovers late in the second quarter and Mitch Burgin scored a pair of goals to cut the margin to 5-4 at halftime.

Adrian dominated possession in the third quarter as Albion struggled to get the ball out of its defensive half of the field. Albion successfully moved the ball past midfield on 6-of-10 opportunities. Eric Fannell scored a pair of even strength goals, and Burgin tacked on a man-advantage score as Albion seized a 7-5 lead.

Albion rallied to forge a tie at 8-8 early in the fourth quarter as Alexander Dziewit scored his third goal of the day and Dylan Neal tacked on his second.

Fannell produced the game-winner with nine minutes to play.

Both goalkeepers played well. Albion's Kyle Formanczyk stopped 62 percent of the shots he faces (13-of-21) while Adrian's Kevin Lerg finished with 11 saves.
