Box Score KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Albion College was unable to hold on to leads in the fourth and fifth sets as it lost a five-set match to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rival Kalamazoo College.
Albion took the lead in the match by winning the second and third sets by scores of 27-25 and 26-24.
Kalamazoo reeled off an 8-1 run to overcome a 12-9 deficit in the fourth set. The Hornets won the set, 25-19, to extend the match.
Kristen Beyer served up two of her five aces and Rachel Spencer knocked down two of her 11 kills as Albion ripped off five consecutive points to forge a 12-5 lead in the fifth set. Albion scored one point the rest of the way – a block by Jessica Konieczny and Stephanie Thurner – that provided the Britons with a 13-12 lead at the time.
Nya Greenstone sparked the Kalamazoo rally as she delivered three kills and an ace late in the fifth set. Greenstone and Kaela Van Til finished with 17 kills apiece and Greenstone added 16 digs. Paige Johnson added 14 kills and four blocks for the Hornets.
Lauren Outwater hit .213 for Albion with 16 kills in 47 attacks and she collected 19 digs. Konieczny finished with nine kills and three blocks.
Albion will go in search of a win against a MIAA rival Wednesday when it travels to Adrian College for a 6:30 p.m. contest.
