Albion's Rally Falls Short

ANGOLA, Ind. – Albion College rallied to force a fifth set, but Trine University had a pair of four point scoring runs in the fifth to pull out the victory in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association volleyball match.

Trine defeated Albion 25-20, 27-25, 15-25, 18-25, 15-12.

Megan Verkamp served an ace and assisted on Taylor Rabel's kill as Trine scored consecutive points to build a 15-13 lead in the first set and it never trailed from there.

The second set was tied 23, 24, and 25. Emma Bowman and Shannon Scott teamed up to block Taylor Rosenthal's attack and Verkamp produced a kill as Trine forged a 2-0 lead in the match.

Stephanie Thurner terminated three points as Albion seven in a row to seize control of the third set.

Three Trine errors helped Albion score five in a row to build a 7-2 lead in the fourth set. Rosenthal terminated two points as Albion went on a five-point run in extending the margin to 12-3.

Janaya Wilder produced a kill and joined Bowman on a block to spark Trine's four-point run in the fifth set. The Thunder led 9-4 and went on to win the deciding set.

Trine's Taylor Rabel led all players with 15 kills and she also collected 13 digs. Verkamp added 13 kills, eight digs and two block assists.

Thurner led Albion with 14 kills and Rosenthal added 13 kills and three block assists.

Albion begins the final week of the season with a Tuesday home match against Adrian College. The first serve is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
