CHESTERTON, Ind. – First-year divers Jake Burris and Henry Swett achieved NCAA regional qualifying scores on the 1-meter and Gerardo Huidobro won two individual events and was part of the winning 200-yard medley relay as Albion College split its Sunday dual meets.
Albion beat Carthage in the final event, the 400 freestyle relay, to eke out a 155 ½ - 143 ½ victory over the Red Men. The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology defeated Albion, 178-121.
Burris achieved a 305.54 total on his six optional dives. The school record, set by Ty Lattimore during the 2009-2010 season, is 307 ½. Swett scored 292.35.
Huidobro set winning times of 59.75 seconds in the 100 breaststroke and 4:54.73 in the 500 freestyle. He joined Sebastian Tostado, Nate Kozycki and Derek Bosko for a time of 1:35.48 in the medley relay.
Bosko and Kozycki also placed first in individual events. Bosko set a time of 22.25 seconds in the 50 freestyle and Kozycki went 52.62 in the 100 butterfly.
Lucas Harder scored Albion's other individual win, completing the 200 breaststroke in 2:13.71.
Parker Belmore, Tom Parsons, Tostado and Bosko completed the free relay in 3:13.22.
"We have things to work on, but on the while we've been pretty good," Albion Head Coach Jake Taber said. "We have stepped up against good competition."
Taber noted the Britons have a challenging schedule for the remainder of the fall semester. Albion's next meet is a Nov. 6-7 quadrangular in Grand Rapids, Mich., against Calvin College, Carthage and Ohio Northern University. The Britons next dual is a Nov. 14 meet at Kalamazoo College, and they travel to Carthage for an end of semester invitational the first weekend of December.
