Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – Thomas Fuss' goal with two minutes left slammed the door on Albion's rally in a 11-10 loss to Wittenberg in non-league men's lacrosse action Tuesday night.
Wittenberg scored four times in the first 9:18 of the contest and never trailed. Fuss, who finished the night with four goals, struck three times in the first quarter.
Wittenberg seized an 8-4 lead when Matt Hugdahl tallied an extra-man goal with 9 ½ minutes left in the third.
Alexander Dziewit scored a pair of unassisted goals and Zach Hubbell tacked on one of his own as Albion pulled within one, 8-7, at the end of the third quarter.
Albion was never able to score the equalizer, however. Hugdahl and Sean Kelleher scored early in the fourth as Wittenberg extended the margin to 10-7.
The Britons rallied with goals from Cameron Braun and Joe Braley and trailed 10-9 with 2:37 left. Albion won the face-off with a chance to tie, but Wittenberg pounced on a turnover and Fuss tacked on the score that extinguished the Britons comeback hopes.
Dziewit produced four goals for Albion and Braun had two. Hubbell chipped in with a goal and two assists. Braley, Brad Bogus and Tim Urso also produced goals for the Britons.
Goalkeeper Kyle Formanczyk finished with 15 saves.
Next up for Albion is a trip to John Carroll University next Tuesday.
