Doubles Deficit Swallows Britons

ALBION, Mich. – Ross Kynast and Will Pearl won their respective singles matches for Albion College Thursday afternoon, but those points were not enough to overcome a 3-0 deficit after the doubles matches. Alma walked out of the Ungrodt Tennis Center with a 7-2 victory in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association men's tennis match.

Albion's best chance for a point in doubles was on the No. 1 court. Kynast and Pearl were leading 6-3, but the Britons would win only one more game in a 9-7 loss.

Kynast came back right away, winning the No. 1 singles match in straight sets, 6-2, 7-5.

The second flight pairing Albion's Zach McKenzie and Alma's Trent Pontious was the match of the night. McKenzie pulled out a tiebreaker to take the first set, but Pontious evened the match by a 6-2 score in the second set. Pontious won a tiebreaker, 12-10, to decide the match.

In the fifth flight, Pearl came back to score a point for Albion. He won the second set, 6-2, and the match deciding tiebreaker, 10-4.

Next up for Albion is a 1 o'clock Saturday home match against Calvin College.
