SAGINAW, Mich. – First-year diver Jake Burris debuted four new dives on the 3-meter board Saturday, and he was rewarded with a school-record score as Albion launched the second half of the swimming & diving season with a dual meet at Division II Saginaw Valley State University.
Burris achieved a 311.95 total to beat the old standard of 304.80 set by Dan Fradeneck in 2004. Burris also won the 1-meter event with a 274.45 total.
Derek Bosko won the sprint freestyle events and he swam the final leg of the winning 400-yard freestyle relay, but Albion lost the team scoring, 159-141. Bosko covered the 50 yards in 21.78 seconds and he finished the 100 in 47.37 seconds.
Kyle Harvey was first to finish the 1,000 freestyle, achieving a season-best time of 10:28.25, and Parker Belmore set a winning time of 56.13 seconds in the 100 backstroke.
Belmore, Matt Anderson, Tom Parsons and Bosko finished the freestyle relay in 3:15.20.
Albion returns to competition against its Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rivals Jan. 16 with a home dual meet against Calvin College. Swimmers will dive in for the first event at 1 o'clock at Albion's Dean Aquatic Center.
