Box Score ALBION, Mich. – All it took was one goal for Albion College to open the gate to scoring Tuesday night.
After the Britons played what Head Coach Wytse Molenaar called a "pedestrian" first half, defender Andrew Prince responded with a goal and an assist to boost Albion to a 3-0 victory over Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rival Olivet College at the Davis Athletic Complex.
The victory, coupled by Kalamazoo College's overtime result over Alma College, boosted Albion (7-6 overall, 6-3 against MIAA rivals) and Adrian College into a tie for second place in the league standings. Albion and Adrian will meet at 4 o'clock Saturday afternoon at the Davis Athletic Complex.
Despite some glorious chances – forward Bobby Budlong had an attempt stopped by Olivet goalkeeper Nathan Weeks and another hit the post in one sequence – Albion was held scoreless until the 70th minute. Prince finished off a cross from Steven Lockhart for his first goal of the season.
"We kept plugging away," Prince said. "My goal was a great pass through by Steve. After that, we were able to play the ball through. On the defensive side, we packed in there."
Kyle Bourlier and Erik Vanfossen scored three minutes apart to seal the victory.
While the box score reports goalkeeper Justin Kraft made three saves to earn the fourth clean sheet of the season, the defense focused on slowing Olivet's transition attack.
Still, the Comets had their best scoring chance denied in the final two minutes when Michael Brait's shot was blocked at the goal line.
