MUNCIE, Ind. – Divers Jake Burris and Henry Swett owned the boards and Sebastian Tostado won three individual events and the 200-yard medley relay (with Gerardo Huidobro, Nate Kozycki and Derek Bosko) as the Albion College men's swimming and diving team split its Friday dual meets.
Albion gained a 150-131 victory over the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, but took a 159 ½-121 ½ loss to Division I Ball State University.
Burris scored 269.80 to win the 1-meter competition over Swett (256.30), with Jake Maurer coming in fourth (222.85). Swett outscored Burris, 254.70-239.60, in the 3-meter event, with Maurer coming in fourth (219.45).
Tostado won the 100 backstroke (53.64), 200 backstroke (1:57.75) and 200 individual medley (2:00.12). Tostado's 25.14-second leadoff split in the medley relay gave Albion a three-tenths of a second lead and the Britons hung on for a second and a half victory over Ball State. The Britons set a winning relay time of 1:36.01.
Mac Robertson edged Ball State's J.D. Middleton (1:49.40-1:49.69) to win the 200 freestyle.
Another exciting race was the 100 freestyle. The race was decided by five-hundredths of a second as Bosko came in second to Ball State's Austin Green (48.31-48.36).
Albion will split the team Saturday, with most of the team headed to Greencastle, Ind., for dual meets against the nationally ranked teams from DePauw University and Washington (Mo.) University. A smaller group will travel to Alma College for a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association dual meet.
