Box Score ALBION, Mich. – Albion College had Calvin College, the nation's top ranked team in Division III, on the ropes in the second set, but the Knights overcame a nine-point deficit and finished a sweep of the Britons.
Calvin improved to 15-0 overall and 9-0 against Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rivals with the 25-13, 25-22, 25-13 victory.
Albion scored four points with Angela Adams serving and three with Rachel Zawodny serving to take a 16-9 lead in the second set. Monica Shuk served an ace to build the Albion lead to 20-11.
An attack error gave the serve back to Calvin, and Kristen Vyletel served aces on consecutive points as the Briton lead melted to six, 20-14. Laura Danhoff asserted herself by terminating three points and the margin was three, 21-18.
Marie Pregenzer terminated a point, giving Albion a glimmer of hope as it led, 22-18.
Anna Kamp terminated three points as Calvin ran off the final seven points of the set to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
Calvin ran off a 5-0 run to start the third set and the Knights never looked back.
The Knights finished hitting .272 as Kamp produced 13 kills and Danhoff had 11.
Albion's attack was balanced with Pregenzer, Taylor Rosenthal and Lauren Outwater collecting five kills apiece. Rosenthal also collected three block assists.
Albion, 11-9 overall and 2-7 against league rivals, returns to Kresge Gymnasium for Saturday matches against MIAA rival Kalamazoo College and the University of Michigan-Dearborn.
