GRANVILLE, Ohio – Henry Swett finished fourth in the 3-meter diving competition in the NCAA Division III Region 1 Championships to seal his trip to the NCAA Championships in March.
A first-year student-athlete from Marshall, Mich., Swett averaged 43.05 per round to finish with a 473.50 total. His score swelled over the last four dives as he earned 51.80 on a 3 ½ somersault, 56.70 on a 2 ½ somersault, 46.80 on a 1 ½ somersault, 1 ½ twist, and 56 on a 1 ½ somersault, 2 ½ twist.
"Henry looked relaxed," Albion Head Coach Jake Taber said. "He went out and had fun."
Jake Burris, Swett's classmate, finished 11th with a 442.65 total. The Chelsea, Mich., native, who finished fifth in the 1-meter competition on Friday, also qualified for the NCAA Championships. He scored at least 52 on three dives, collecting 52.80 in the first round (a 2 ½ somersault in the pike position), 56.70 on his seventh attempt (a 2 ½ somersault in the tuck position), and a 52.50 in the 10th round (a reverse 1 ½ somersault, 1 ½ twist).
Taber credited Diving Coach Eric Burris for getting Burris and Swett "to be in position when it mattered most."
Albion will be represented by nine student-athletes at the NCAA Championships. Burris and Swett join Parker Belmore, Derek Bosko, Nate Kozycki, Lucas Harder, Anna Moore, Tom Parsons and Sebastian Tostado to the meet in Greensboro, N.C., that runs from March 16-19.
"I'm proud of how the season came together for the swimmers and divers," Taber said. "We are taking nine and not one is a senior."
