Men's Swimming and Diving

On The Board

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Albion College is on the scoreboard in the NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships.

Derek Bosko achieved scintillating splits to lead the Britons to a 15th-place finish in the men's 200-yard freestyle. Bosko anchor leg of 19.83 seconds helped the Britons claim the final qualifying spot with a 1:23.07 time in the morning preliminary. Albion edged New York University, which finished its preliminary race in 1:23.12, for the final place in the evening consolation heat.

Albion moved up a place to 15th as Nate Kozycki, Sebastian Tostado, Bosko and Parker Belmore reached a school-record time of 1:22.53 in the evening race. While Bosko did his part with a 20.01 split, Head Coach Jake Taber credited the times put up by Tostado (20.39) and Belmore (20.41) for creating the opportunity for the school record.

"These guys rose to the level of competition and performed at our highest stage," Taber said. "I'm proud of them.

"Derek was happy after (the morning swim), but the difference tonight was the way Sebastian and Parker raced," Taber continued. "They got off the blocks a little better than this morning and seemed to feed off the environment. Those two splits created the opportunity to drop the time, move up and break the school record."

Albion nearly added points in the men's 400-yard medley relay. Tostado, Lucas Harder, Kozycki, and Bosko posted a time of 3:23.07, but it was a tenth of a second off the pace set by the University of Chicago for the final place in the evening consolation race.

In the only individual swim of the day for the men, Kozycki finished his preliminary swim in the 100-yard butterfly in 50.43 seconds.

Anna Moore made her debut in the NCAA Championships, racing to a time of 59.39 seconds in her preliminary heat of the 100-yard butterfly.

Albion has more chances to score Friday as divers Jake Burris and Henry Swett compete on the 1-meter board, Kozycki dives in for the 200-yard butterfly and the Britons race in the 800-yard freestyle relay.
