ALBION, Mich. – Cameron Braun fell a goal shy of matching the Albion College record for most in a game as the Britons cruised to a 22-7 victory over Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rival Adrian College at Sprankle-Sprandel Stadium.
"This win means a lot to the guys who started the program," Albion Head Coach Jake DeCola said. "This has been the top two teams in our league for the last several years and our guys were ready to go."
Braun, a senior from Bowmanville, Ontario, scored five goals in the first quarter as Albion led 11-1 after 15 minutes of play. Braun added two more goals in the fourth quarter as he matched the career high he set against Beloit, Wis., College in the opening game of the 2015 season.
A 40-goal scorer a season ago, Braun already has 33 in 10 games this season.
Braun received offensive support from John Cooke (a goal, two assists), Jack Costigan (two goals), David DiRado (two goals, five assists), Dominic Hamper (three goals, two assists), Paul Lewis (two goals) and Dylan Neal (two goals, two assists).
DeCola said he was pleased with how the metrics show the Britons made "plenty of effort plays". The Britons were plus-20 in ground balls, with Kyle DeCamp scooping up 15. Matt Lowes also caused a pair of turnovers.
Brad Bogus, playing his fourth career game as the goalkeeper, collected 15 saves.
"It was good to see all of our guys performing," DeCola said.
A share of first place in the MIAA will be on the line Saturday when Albion plays host to Alma College. Face-off is set for 1 p.m.
