OLIVET, Mich. – Albion College nearly pulled off an improbable rally in its Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association men's soccer match at Olivet College.

Down 3-0 early in the second half, Bobby Budlong and Erik Vanfossen scored as the Britons closed the deficit to a goal with 37 minutes left.

Albion was unable to score the equalizer, however, as Michael Brait dribbled up the field and deposited the goal that lifted Olivet to a 4-3 victory over the Britons.

Aaron Smit scored his first goal at the collegiate level in the final minute of the contest.

A look at the box score shows Albion controlled the match with a 23-9 edge in shots, including 10-5 in shots on goal.

After going 1-1 on the opening week of MIAA competition, Albion will continue league play Wednesday night with a contest at Adrian College.
