Box Score GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Albion College built on the momentum of a 4-0 start Wednesday as it played point for point with third-ranked Calvin College for the final two sets.
Calvin won the match between Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rivals 25-7, 25-22, 25-21.
Albion reeled off a 4-1 run to build a 16-11 lead in the second set. Attack errors on consecutive points and a service ace by Marie Pregenzer gave Albion a five-point lead. Kelsey Gustafson and Pregenzer combined on a block as Albion maintained a 21-20 lead late in the set, and Pregenzer's kill forged a tie at 22. Calvin secured the final three points to take the set.
Hannah Mowery, Kaitlyn Gilchrist and Pregenzer terminated points as Albion won three of four points to take a 14-10 lead in the third set. Calvin won the next eight points and never trailed the rest of the set.
Pregenzer hit .400 with seven kills in 15 attacks. Taylor Rosenthal added five kills and two block assists. Monica Shuk led the defensive effort with 16 digs.
Albion (4-1 overall) continues MIAA play Friday night with a match at Kalamazoo College.
