Box Score HOLLAND, Mich. – The Albion College men's soccer team needed a result like the one it earned Saturday afternoon.
After coming up short by a goal five times against Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rivals this season, the Britons benefitted from an own goal to claim a 1-0 victory at Hope College.
"It's a great win for our young team," Albion Coach Wytse Molenaar said. "We've lost or tied enough games that maybe we deserved more in. The guys fought hard and were determined to get a result."
Hope finished with a 17-2 edge in shots, including 5-1 in shots on goal. Goalkeeper Maximilian Loria was up to the test, collecting four saves to gain his second career shutout.
Loria got the offensive support he needed nine minutes into the second half when the Hope defense was unable to clear a pass sent into the box by Albion's Christian Hurtado.
Albion (5-6-3 overall, 2-6-2 MIAA) returns home Tuesday night for a 7 o'clock kickoff against Adrian College.
