Albion Holds Off Concordia

ALBION, Mich. - Albion College won the close matches Wednesday to pull away for a 7-2 victory over Concordia University in a non-league men's tennis match played inside the Ungrodt Tennis Center.

Nick Kinachtchouk and Zach McKenzie pulled out an 8-6 decision at the top of the doubles lineup and Israel Trevino and Toma Shngoo were 8-5 winners in the No. 3 flight match.

Albion made it a clean sweep of the doubles matches as Robert Joerg and Josh McGarry won the No. 2 flight, 8-2.

McGarry pulled out a third set tiebreaker to edge Mitchell Zacharias 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (7-4) at No. 2 singles.

While they won their matches in straight sets, Joerg (6-3, 7-5 at No. 3) and Kinachtchouk (7-5, 6-0 at No. 5) had to turn back significant opposition.

Trevino had the easiest singles victory, winning the No. 4 flight by scores of 6-1 and 6-1.

Albion, 2-2 in the month of February, has a Feb. 28 home match against local rival Spring Arbor University.
