Albion drops home volleyball match

Box Score

ALBION, Mich. – Albion College will have to win its final two Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association matches to secure a home date in the first round of the league volleyball tournament.

The Britons slipped to 3-3 against MIAA rivals with a 25-21, 25-22, 25-15 loss to 20th-ranked Hope College at Kresge Gymnasium Wednesday night.

Kate Winter produced two kills and Jenna Khoury served an ace as Albion scored six in a row to race out to a 10-3 lead in the first set. Albion still led by seven, 11-4, on Winter's fourth kill of the set.

Winter managed just one more kill the rest of the set as Hope scored points in bunches to rally in taking the lead in the match.

Ana Grunewald, Hope's sophomore outside hitter, proved to be difficult to stop. She led all players with 18 kills while hitting .444 and assisted on two blocks. McKenna Otto added nine kills and five block assists for the Flying Dutch.

Winter led Albion with 11 kills.

Albion, 13-9 overall, will take a break from MIAA action on Friday when it travels to Kalamazoo for a match against North Park University.

Joe and Julie Serra have given a $5 million leadership gift to launch a fundraising initiative to make two dreams a reality. The first is a newly expanded fitness and student activity facility at the site of the current Dow Recreation and Wellness Center. The second is a new or renovated facility for the volleyball, men's basketball and women's basketball teams that currently call Kresge Gymnasium home.

The College is continuing to raise funds in support of both projects. To learn more, call 517/629-0446 or email advancement@albion.edu.
