ALBION, Mich. – Albion College took a step toward qualifying for the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Men's Soccer Tournament by gaining a 3-1 result over Olivet College while a steady shower fell at Alumni Field Saturday night.

Joan Tomas played a role in all three Albion goals. He scored his first goal at the collegiate level and assisted on the others. Micah Cross and Spencer Moeggenberg also scored their first goals at the collegiate level for the Britons.

Dean Failer scored the Olivet goal when he was awarded a penalty kick late in the first half.

Albion controlled the match, holding a 12-2 advantage in shots on goal. Carter Peek was credited with three shots on goal.

Albion, 7-8-1 overall and 2-4 against MIAA rivals, concludes the regular season with a Wednesday night match at Calvin University.

Joe and Julie Serra have given a $5 million leadership gift to launch a fundraising initiative to make two dreams a reality at Albion College. The first is a newly expanded fitness and student activity facility at the site of the current Dow Recreation and Wellness Center. The second is a new or renovated competition facility for the volleyball, men's basketball and women's basketball teams that currently call Kresge Gymnasium home.
