Britons bounced in five sets

Box Score

ANGOLA, Ind. – Albion College had two primary scoring options Wednesday night – Chloe Webber with 10 blocks and Kate Winter with 16 kills – but those two could not carry the volleyball team to victory.

Trine University made the adjustments to claim the 18-25, 25-16, 15-25, 25-19, 15-4 victory in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association action.

The loss drops Albion to 15-10 overall and 4-4 in MIAA play. The Britons will travel for a first round match in the MIAA Tournament next Tuesday.

Webber put down solo blocks for the 22nd and 24th points and she terminated the 25th point in the first set. She had nine blocks through three sets as Trine adjusted its attack.

Winter terminated three points late in the third as Albion hit .312 (13 kills and two errors in 32 attacks) in the set.

Albion's hitting fell to .133 (10-4-45) in the fourth and -.167 (4-7-18) in the fifth.

Trine scored nine in a row in one stretch of the fifth set on just two kills. Albion committed five attack errors and it surrendered a service ace.

Of Note

  • Webber matched Taylor Rosenthal's school record for most blocks in a five-set match and she moved into seventh place on Albion's single-season blocks list. Now with 83 blocks, she needs four more to tie Rosenthal's 2015 total for fourth place on the list.
  • Libero Jenna Khoury stuffed the box score with 28 digs, seven assists and two aces.
  • Setter Ava Smith completed a double-double of 13 digs and 12 assists. She added a kill and a service ace.

Joe and Julie Serra have given a $5 million leadership gift to launch a fundraising initiative to make two dreams a reality. The first is a newly expanded fitness and student activity facility at the site of the current Dow Recreation and Wellness Center. The second is a new or renovated facility for the volleyball, men's basketball and women's basketball teams that currently call Kresge Gymnasium home.

The College is continuing to raise funds in support of both projects. To learn more, call 517/629-0446 or email advancement@albion.edu.
