ADRIAN, Mich. – The Albion College volleyball team is off to a 3-0 start for the first time since 2016.

The Britons swept away Manchester University (25-9, 25-20, 25-15) and rallied from two sets down against Adrian College (17-25, 22-25, 25-23, 25-19, 17-15) on Saturday to complete a winning weekend.

Chloe Webber knocked down 10 kills while hitting .474 (one error in 19 attacks) to power Albion past Manchester. Webber's stat line included a block assist and three service aces.

Albion saved three match points in the fifth set against Adrian. Down 14-11, first-year middle blocker Jesse Hepner came up with a block and a kill to help Albion score three in a row and tie the score. Albion took a 16-15 lead when senior Kelsey Gustafson terminated consecutive points  and Kate Winter completed the rally by terminating the final point.

Gustafson (15 kills, 15 digs) and setters Grace VanDorn (32 assists, 11 digs) and Ava Smith (13 assists, 11 digs) all completed double-doubles against Adrian. VanDorn and Smith also served up three aces each.

Winter chipped in with 15 kills and four blocks and Webber added five kills and four blocks.

The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association/North Coast Athletic Conference Crossover event is next up for Albion. The Britons will travel to Aim High in Lansing, Mich., for a Friday night match against Kenyon (Ohio) College and Saturday matches against DePauw (Ind.) University and Wittenberg (Ohio) University.

Joe and Julie Serra have given a $5 million leadership gift to launch a fundraising initiative to make two dreams a reality at Albion College. The first is a newly expanded fitness and student activity facility at the site of the current Dow Recreation and Wellness Center. The second is a new or renovated competition facility for the volleyball, men's basketball and women's basketball teams that currently call Kresge Gymnasium home.

The College is continuing to raise funds in support of both projects. To learn more, call 517/629-0446 or email advancement@albion.edu
