ALBION, Mich. - Tselmeg Mendsaikhan came through at No. 6 singles and that lifted Albion College to a 5-4 victory over Alma College in a men's tennis match.
Mendsaikhan split the first two sets with David Suidgeest, but he took a tiebreaker, 10-4, to claim the decisive point in the match.
Alma tied the match at 4-4 when Brett Reuter won the No. 2 singles match.
Patrick Smoker won the tiebreaker at No. 3 singles (6-3, 6-7 (5-7), 10-6) and Matt Czarnecki was a 6-2, 6-3 winner at No. 4 singles. Czarnecki and Smoker worked together to win the No. 2 doubles match.
Brett Gurzell and Toma Shngoo provided Albion's other point with a win at No. 1 doubles.
Albion will conclude its fall season with an Oct. 4 match at Concordia University.

Joe and Julie Serra have given a $5 million leadership gift to launch a fundraising initiative to make two dreams a reality at Albion College. The first is a newly expanded fitness and student activity facility at the site of the current Dow Recreation and Wellness Center. The second is a new or renovated competition facility for the volleyball, men's basketball and women's basketball teams that currently call Kresge Gymnasium home.
