Box Score Grand Rapids, Mich. - It was a true road test for Albion as they were able to overcome a nine-point deficit in the first half to beat Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association opponent Calvin 77-69. The Britons were backed by a strong performance from their veteran starters Evelyn Wischmeyer, Rain Hinton, and Emily Bernas. The three upperclassmen accounted for 60 of their 77 total points.
It was a historic night for Rain Hinton as she became the 11th Albion women's basketball player to reach 1,000 career points with five quick points in the first quarter. Hinton finished the night with 17.
"Rain has been a great addition for us in the paint," Head Coach Doreen Carden said. "To be able to reach 1,000 points in only three years is impressive and we look forward to the rest of this season and are excited to have her back next year for a fourth."
It was an uphill battle in the first 15 minutes for Albion as they found themselves behind 29-20. A timeout by Albion with 4:37 left in the second quarter and then a quick three-pointer by Evelyn Wischmeyer seemed to be the turn of the tide. The Britons ended the last 4:37 of the first half on a 12-1 run and took their second lead of the game on a layup by Elena Welker right before the half.
The 12-1 run later proved to be the turning point as Albion never gave up the lead after that. Calvin seemed to have an answer for every one of Albion's baskets in the 3rd quarter, but the Britons 61.5% second-half field goal percentage seemed to be too much to keep up with. It was a team effort with 18 assists on 28 baskets.
Albion's defense held the Knights to 40% shooting from the field while forcing 16 turnovers. Dominating the boards continues to be a theme for the Britons as they outrebound Calvin 42-33, which included 14 offensive rebounds and ten second-chance points.

The second is a new or renovated competition facility for the volleyball, men's basketball and women's basketball teams that currently call Kresge Gymnasium home.
