Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Volleyball blocks its way to nonconference win

ALBION -- It wasn't pretty, but at the end of the night the Albion College volleyball team prevailed over Oberlin College, 3-1, on Friday. 14 total blocks helped the Brits, as they struggled from the service line in the match.

Winners of six straight, the Brits improve to 18-6 overall as the Yeowomen fall to 10-11.

In a back and forth opening set, the hosts came away with a 25-21 victory. Finding their offensive groove, the Britons won handily, 25-16, in the second set, before Oberlin forced a fourth set. The Yeowomen capitalized on Albion mistakes, claiming a 27-25 third set win.

The Britons cruised to a 25-16 win in the final set, securing the Homecoming victory.

Chloe Webber and Olivia Alexander each totaled 16 kills in the win. With six total blocks, Webber moves into fourth place all-time in Albion history with 228 in her career.

Junior middle Jesse Hepner was also solid on the block, finishing with a career-high seven total blocks. Freshman Ja'Nyece Larry added five total blocks as well for the Brits.

Defensively, Jenna Khoury continued her stellar senior campaign with 20 digs. Ava Smith added 12 in the win.

Mariah Brenz (25 assists) and Grace VanDorn (16 assists) paced the Albion offense.

As a team, Albion committed 12 service errors in the match. Oberlin attacked at a mere .101 clip, aiding the Albion win.

The 18 wins ties a season-best in the Kristin Slamer-de St. Aubin era. In 2016, her Britons finished the year with an 18-11 mark.

Albion will have just over a week off before concluding regular season action on Oct. 30 at Trine. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m
