ADRIAN, Mich. -- They really put the 2 in "Tuesday."
With a 1-0 win over Adrian College, the Albion College women's soccer team clinched the No. 2 seed in the upcoming MIAA Tournament. The Brits wrap up the regular season with a 10-3-1 overall record, 5-2-1 in the conference.Â
In the 28th minute, the Britons scored the lone goal of the contest on a chip shot by
Mia Crawford. The freshman netted her second goal of the season off a pass from
Megan Loney. The assist was Loney's sixth of the year, third-best in the MIAA.
Midway through the second half, the Bulldogs got their best look at the goal. A ball played into the box found the feet of one of the MIAA's top scorers, McKenna Mahoney. The Bulldog senior was poised to get a good shot off, but
Quinn Natschke made a great tackle to help out her sister in goal and prevent Mahoney from getting a decent look at the goal.Â
Romee Natschke tallied six saves in goal, earning her sixth shutout of the season, including her third in the last four games.Â
Albion controlled the tempo for most of the match, keeping the ball in Adrian territory. The 10 wins are the most for the Brits since the 2016 season.Â
"That's a well-coached team and a difficult place to get a win, but our back line was great all day," said head coach
Eric Scott. "A lot of credit goes to [athletic trainer]
Eddie Schaeffer for keeping us healthy all year."
As the No. 2 seed, the Brits have earned a first-round bye this weekend and host a playoff game on Tuesday, Nov. 2 at 7 p.m. Albion will play the winner of the No. 3Â vs. No. 6Â game which will take place on Saturday.
