Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's basketball remains perfect

A double-double from Dareonna Little and 20 points from Riley Davis boosted the Britons

ANGOLA, Ind. -- A double-double from Dareonna Little and a second-half explosion by Riley Davis led the Albion College women's basketball team to a 57-39 win over Kenyon College on Sunday. The Britons finished with a perfect 2-0 record at the Trine University Classic on opening weekend.

For the second straight game, Davis was Albion's leading scorer, dropping 20 points and bringing down nine rebounds. Little had a career day, scoring 15 points and grabbing 12 boards -- both career-bests for the sophomore.

A slow-moving first quarter saw the Britons trailing 9-6 after one. Similar to Saturday's win, a dynamic second quarter helped Albion take the lead.

Down 14-8 with 7:40 before the half, Angelina Mendieta fed Little inside for a layup, commencing the big run. A second-chance bucket followed by another layup from little tied the score at 14. Nicole Sweetland put the Britons up for good with a triple, thanks to a dish from Lauren Reed. Missed chances at the horn resulted in Albion taking a 21-17 lead into halftime.

A Kenyon three out of the break cut the lead to one, but Albion immediately had an answer. Turning to Davis and Little, the Britons worked to inflate the lead to as many as 10 points over the next five minutes. Baskets by Davis and Reed late in the period pushed the lead to 39-24 in favor of the Brits with 10 minutes to play.

Cierra Cole's 3-pointer with 6:35 on the clock extended the lead to 20 points, giving Albion complete control of the contest. The senior captain finished with three points, five rebounds and an assist as well.

Using its bench to its advantage, the Britons got 24 points from its nonstarters. Playing primarily a five-player rotation, the Ladies' only points came from the starters.

The Britons cashed in on Kenyon turnovers, scoring 17 points off 19 turnovers. Davis, Cole, Reed and Romee Natschke all registered a pair of steals.

Sweetland and Reed led the Brits, each tallying three assists. In just six minutes of action, Emma Cooke hauled in four boards.

On the young season, the Britons open the year 2-0.

Albion will play its home opener on Wednesday when they host Heidelberg. Tip off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
