SPRING ARBOR, Mich. -- A runaway second quarter lifted the Albion College women's basketball team to its fourth straight win, defeating Spring Arbor University 70-29. The Britons limited the Cougars to just three points in the second quarter -- all coming in the final minute.
Sophomore
Dareonna Little led Albion with 12 points and six rebounds. Both
Elena Welker and
Angelina Mendieta added nine points apiece. Sophomore
Daniah Beavers totaled eight points off the bench.
In the first quarter, the Brits led by one before Little sank a pair of free throws to extend the lead to three. A putback by
Romee Natschke in the final minute gave Albion a 17-12 lead after one.
On a 19-0 run in the second, the visitors took complete control of the contest. Two straight buckets by Little followed by a basket by
Lolo Reed pushed the lead to double digits. Albion added points with a nice putback by
Audrey DeWaters and another score from Reed, leading 28-12 with five minutes before the half.
With 2:44 remaining in the second quarter,
Becca Ross gave Albion a 21 point lead -- the same margin they would hold at the half.
Out of the half,
Cierra Cole knocked down a three to keep the Britons with the momentum. The story would be all Albion for the remainder of the contest.
The Britons scored 25 points off turnovers while outscoring the Cougars in the paint, 31-6.
The 29 points is the fewest allowed by Albion since Dec. 16, 2017 in a 69-29 win over Kalamazoo.

Holding a 50-26 advantage on the battle of the boards, the Britons scored 18 second chance points, while getting 31 points from the bench.
The Britons resume conference play on Saturday at Alma College. Game time is scheduled for 3 p.m.
