It was a clean sweep for Albion equestrians in their second home scrimmage against Adrian on March 20.
Briton hunt seat opened the day with a sweep of the Bulldogs. Led by Halley Guptil (Clinton Twp/International Academy), who took the high point award over fences and Sarah Vander Kooi (Fremont/Western Michigan Christian), who was the high point flat rider, Albion's final team score was 6 points to Adrian's 3.
Guptil's high point award came as a result of her win in Limit Fences and a win in Intermediate Flat. Vander Kooi scored a 77 for her Limit Flat ride with Hannah DesRochers (Commerce Twp/Walled Lake Northern) in a close second with a 76.
Also putting points on the board for Briton hunt seat were Alyvia Fondren (Ida/Ida) and Sara Ostrowski (Grand Rapids/Northview), who came first and second in Novice Flat and Mattison Coburn (Kalamazoo/Galesburg Augusta) with a second Pre-Novice with a score of 71.
Next, the Briton western riders stepped up in the afternoon portion of the scrimmage to take the win from the Bulldogs, 6-4.
Led by last year's regional champion Margaret Cash (Canton/Germantown), who took the titles in both Open Horsemanship and Reining, Albion came out strong. First year Aria Morgan (Liberty Center, OH/Napoleon) was close on her heels and the Briton scores were also supported by wins fromNatalie Stolyarov(Ann Arbor/Skyline) and Brianna Vickers (St. Clair/Marysville) in their sections of Level II Ranch Riding.
Karragen Roe (Angola, IN/Angola) also scored a victory in Rookie Horsemanship and the highest scoring rider of the day for the second scrimmage in a row was sophomore Aubrey Kruske (Saginaw/St. Charles) in Level I Horsemanship with an 80.
The Britons and Bulldogs continue their scrimmage series at the Held Equestrian Center on Saturday, April 3. No spectators are allowed, but the event will be live streamed to https://www.facebook.com/AlbionCollegeEquestrian beginning at 9:00 am.
