Three Albion hunt seat riders competed at IHSA Zone Finals on Saturday, March 28. Two riders,
Phoebe Martin and
Victoria Panasiuk, qualified for IHSA Nationals.
Martin had a performance to remember. She won the open flat individual title and was third place in the Cacchione Cup High Point Rider division, which qualified her for nationals. Additionally, Martin was seventh in the open fences individual competition.
Martin set program records in all three events. She also became the first rider in team history to win the Cacchione Cup High Point Rider award for the region, which puts her in the top 40 of all IHSA riders in the country. Additionally, the program has never had a Cacchione Cup rider compete at IHSA Zones which now puts Martin in the top 24 riders in the country and has never had a Cacchione Cup rider compete at Nationals.
Victoria Panasiuk competed in the intermediate fences individual competition and took runner-up, which also qualified her for nationals.
Katie Woerner was the third Briton to compete at IHSA Zones, as she placed dixth in the intermediate flat individual.
IHSA Nationals will take place at Tryon Internationals in Mill Spring, N.C. from May 1-3. The Albion western team will also be competing.
