ALBION -- After a two week hiatus, the Albion College men's tennis team returned to action, falling to Trine University, 7-2. With the spring-like weather, the Britons were able to compete on their outdoor courts for the first time this season.
Trine narrowly swept the three doubles matches. At first doubles, Danny McGarry and Michael Polizzi fell, 8-6, and Brett Gurzell and Drake Malcolm dropped their match, 8-5. Matthew Czarnecki and Cecil Burkhart were edged out at third doubles, 8-7(3).
The Brits picked up their two wins at fifth and sixth singles. Patrick Smoker won a tight match, 6-4, 5-7, 11-9 and Czarnecki followed it up with a 7-6(5), 6-3 win at sixth singles.
Albion will open MIAA play on Saturday in the second half of a doubleheader with the women's team. The men's match commences at 2 p.m.
