Box Score ANGOLA, Ind. -- Despite trailing by two at the half, the Albion College women's basketball team bowed out of the MIAA Tournament, falling to Trine University, 70-54.
Senior Rain Hinton led the Britons with 15 points and nine rebounds. Rebecca Ross was the only other Albion player to score in double figures, adding 10 points. Freshman Lauren Reed chipped in eight points off the bench.
Albion broke out to a quick 6-0 lead, courtesy of 3-pointers from Hinton and Ross. With 2:31 remaining in the first quarter, the visitors held an 18-13 advantage, but Trine -- No. 3 in the latest D3hoops.com poll -- stormed back with an 8-0 run to lead at the end of one.
The teams traded blows in the second quarter, as neither team could build a lead larger than six points. Buckets from Amanda Larson and Elena Welker cut the Thunder lead to just two at the half.
Out of the break, Trine began to distance themselves, taking a 12 point lead into the final quarter. Early in the fourth, the Thunder was able to pull away to advance to Saturday's championship contest.
The Britons suffered from an uncharacteristic night at the line, making just 50 percent of their free throws. Trine capitalized on Albion mistakes, scoring 32 points off 21 turnovers.
The loss ends the storied career of Hinton, who leaves Albion as one of the most decorated players to come through the program. She finishes with 1,384 career points, good for second all-time. Her 660 rebounds is good for fourth all-time.
Albion wraps up the season with an 8-6 record.
