Box Score ALBION -- A stellar performance lifted the Albion College volleyball team to a 3-0 sweep over Trine University on Friday night. Albion closes out the regular season with a 5-2 mark overall.
Junior Chloe Webber led the attack with 11 kills. Freshman Olivia Alexander added nine kills, attacking at a .467 clip. Classmate Kaylynne Nicholson led the defense with 14 digs while libero Jenna Khoury contributed 10.
Mariah Brenz dished up 19 assists while Grace VanDorn finished with 15.
Brenz gave the Britons the spark they needed in the opening set, helping Albion turn an 11-7 lead into an 18-7 lead. With the freshman back to serve, she rattled off four service aces in the 7-0 run for Albion.
Despite a small Trine run, Albion held off the Thunder to take the set, 25-19.
The story was all Albion in the second set, earning a 25-13 win. The Britons scored 10 straight points with Ava Smith back to serve.
Albion took the final set 25-20 off a kill by Jesse Hepner.
In the decisive final set, Albion attacked at a .455 percentage.
The Britons finished with 10 total blocks, led by Webber with three.
Senior Kate Winter added nine kills for the Brits.
Albion will await its future to see the seeding for next week's MIAA Tournament. The Brits will most likely receive a top-four ranking, meaning they will host Tuesday night. All updates will be posted at gobrits.com.
