Box Score ALBION, Mich. -- In the first round of the MIAA Tournament, the Albion College volleyball team swept Adrian College, 3-0. With the win, it is head coach Kristin Slamer-de St. Aubin's 100th career win as a head coach.
Junior middle Chloe Webber led the attack with 14 kills, attacking at a .480 clip. Freshman Olivia Alexander added eight kills in the win.
Defensively, freshman Kaylynne Nicholson led the team with 13 digs. Playing six rotations, she added seven kills as well. Libero Jenna Khoury had 11 digs in the match.
Mariah Brenz (17 assists) and Grace VanDorn (14 assists) dished out the offense for the Brits.
Despite a tight first set, the Britons held the lead for nearly the entire set. An Adrian attack error gave the Britons a 25-20 win in the opener.
Holding a 16-14 lead, Albion scored four straight points to distance themselves from the Bulldogs. Kills by Alexander and Kate Winter along with an ace from Khoury sparked the run. Nicholson finished off the set with a kill, taking it 25-19.
The story was all Albion in the final set, as the Britons scored six straight with Kameron Haley back to serve. Brenz finished off the match with a kill, sending the Britons into the next round.
Adrian committed 11 receiving errors in the match compared to Albion's three. Haley had a monster night at the serving line, finishing the night with five aces.
Albion advances to the MIAA Tournament Semifinals on Thursday. The Britons will travel to No. 2 seed Hope College for a 7 p.m. game.
