WSOC drops heartbreaker on the road

A late goal sank the Britons in the season opener

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- For nearly 110 minutes, the Albion College women's soccer team outplayed Concordia University. A late goal from the Cardinals sank the Brits, 1-0, in double overtime on opening day.

Albion had two chances in the second overtime period, butu could not capitalize to find the golden goal. With seven minutes remaining, sophomore Avery Campbell had a breakaway, but a fantastic save by the CUAA keeper kept the game locked at zero. The save led to a corner for the Brits, but Quinn Natschke's header was once again saved by the Cardinals.

With 1:32 on the clock, a strike by the Cardinals found the back of the net, just past the outstretched arms of junior goalkeeper Romee Natschke. Natschke tallied five saves for Albion while her sister, Quinn, led the Britons with four shots -- three on goal.

The Britons outshot the Cardinals in the match, 18-14.

Albion begins the season 0-1, while CUAA -- a NAIA opponent -- improves to 2-1 overall.

The Brits travel to Wisconsin for the weekend where they will play a pair of games. On Saturday,  Albion will face off against MSOE followed by Carthage on Sunday. Both games will be hosted by Carthage.
