KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- For the fifth straight season, the Albion College volleyball team opened MIAA action with a win, defeating Kalamazoo College 3-0. Winners of five in a row, the Britons improve to 10-3, 1-0 on the season.
Playing six rotations, sophomore
Kaylynne Nicholson recorded a double-double, totaling 10 kills and 10 digs. Senior libero
Jenna Khoury collected a game-high 12 digs.

Chloe Webber continued her hot hitting, slamming nine kills and attacking at a .438 clip. Fellow middle
Jesse Hepner also tallied nine kills for the Brits.
Mariah Brenz and
Grace VanDorn dished up the offense for Albion. Brenz finished the night with 24 assists, eight digs and five service aces, while VanDorn added 14 assists.
Ja'Nyece Larry was efficient from the right side, finishing the night with a .714 hitting percentage. The freshman had five kills on seven attempts, committing zero errors in the match.
Knotted at five, Albion used a7-0 run to create significant distance from the Hornets in the first set. With Brenz back to serve, the sophomore had two of her five aces during the run. Additionally, two of Larry's kills happened within the run. The visitors would go on to win the first set with ease, 25-15.
Albion attack errors allowed Kalamazoo to hang around for the entirety of the second set. The Britons found themselves trailing 23-22 late in the set before a Hepner kill gave the ball back to the visitors. Another Hepner kill followed up a Brenz ace to give the Brits the 25-23 win.
Back in their offensive groove, the Brits maintained a steady lead in the third set. Using an early run, Albion held at least a five point advantage for the entirety of the final set. Larry sent the Brits home with a kill to end the match and the set, 25-13.
Boosted by a .406 attacking percentage in the first set, the Britons swung at a .346 mark for the match. Kalamazoo struggled offensively, hitting just .117.
Always a threat from the service line, Albion had 10 aces in the match. Despite the success on the serve, the Britons still committed 10 service errors. On the other side of the net, the Hornets committed just three service errors.
The Hornets slip to 3-6 overall, 0-1 in the MIAA.
Albion remains on the road this weekend when they travel to Adrian for a tri-match. The Britons will play the Bulldogs for a MIAA contest, followed by a non-conference affair with North Park. Saturday's matches will begin at 12 and 2 p.m.
