ADRIAN, Mich. -- With two games on the docket, the Albion College volleyball team split on Saturday afternoon in Adrian. The Britons rallied to defeat Adrian in five sets before falling to non-conference opponent North Park in straight sets.
GAME ONE: Albion 3 Adrian 2
Olivia Alexander led the attack with 15 kills. Reigning MIAA Player of the Week
Chloe Webber tallied 14 kills, seven total blocks and four service aces. Sophomore
Kaylynne Nicholson added her second straight double-double with 11 kills and a career-high 19 digs. Nicholson also finished with a game-high five aces.
Junior middle
Jesse Hepner also tallied a new career-high with 13 kills.
Mariah Brenz dished out the offense, contributing 42 assists and 11 digs.
Defensively, senior libero
Jenna Khoury racked up 36 digs -- a career-best. Classmate
Ava Smith also finished in double-digits with 17 digs.
The Bulldogs won the first two sets by 25-23 margins, forcing the Britons to battle back in the MIAA match. After Albion won the third set, 25-23, the Britons added a 25-19 win in the fourth set to force a winner-take-all fifth set.
Led by the serving of Nicholson, the visitors held the momentum in the final set, winning by a 15-6 mark.
In the decisive fifth set, the Bulldogs attacked at a mere .059 clip as the Britons shined with a .571 mark. The Brits had a good day at the net, racking up 12 blocks compared to Adrian's three.
GAME TWO: North Park 3 Albion 0
After a back and forth battle with the Bulldogs, Albion was swept by North Park in their second match of the day.
The Britons' offense struggled, combining for just a .053 percentage for the game. Khoury picked up 14 digs in the match to lead Albion on defense.
Grace VanDorn and Brenz each finished with nine assists.
Albion moves to 11-4 overall, 2-0 in the MIAA.
The Brits will host Hope on Wednesday for Senior Night. Prior to the match, Albion will recognize Khoury, Webber, Smith,
Hannah Miller and
Shelby Palmer. Game time is schedule for 6:30 p.m.
